Well this past weekend we went for a spirited hike in the Ko’olau’s and had a blast.

We got home, bathed and fed the dogs and all was well until the next morning…..Gunner woke up and had breakfast and came back to bed shortly thereafter whimpering. He laid down and woke me up to let me know something was wrong. When he started walking around he would not apply weight to his front left paw. I put him back in a down position and proceeded to check his paw, but other than a small abrasion could not find anything wrong with it. No swelling, no visual signs of any dislocation or breakage, but heavy sensitivity to his toes.

It’s been a full 2 days since the hike and no major improvement to his tentative condition….Still hopping along. I have noticed when he’s on grass he’ll put his paw down and that’s what has led me to wonder if he may have bruised it badly. He was sprinting and romping through the trail pretty hard and there are a ton of rocks up there so it seems like the likely deduction.

Anyone ever experience something similar with their dogs?

Well last night I inspected his foot and found a slight yeast infection between his toes. Perhaps traversing the mountain left him with excessive moisture and started an infection. I cleaned the area between his toes with some antiseptic wipes and within a couple of hours he was back on his feet. He’s slowly improving over the last 24 hours….

Wanted to make sure and revisit this thread to give you all an update. It turns out that shortly after Gunner developed the limp, we identified a yeast infection between the toes on the affected foot. We promptly cleaned the area between his toes with malaseb wipes and began applying (yeah I know….) topical monistat creme to the irritation. Within a couple of hours he was back on all fours and the problem has cleared up about 90%. This wet weather all day long ain’t helping, but at least it’s under control.

I wonder if that’s happening to Chie.  She’s been limping slightly, on & off, but her paw seemed normal upon inspection & then she’d be fine the next day.  I assumed that with all the wrestling she & Madeline are doing all day (Seriously.  ALL day.) it’s normal.

Today she’s still happily scrapping but has been making very obvious with her paw.  She actually hops to me holding the paw up & then props herself against my leg, still holding the paw up.  I’m starting to get the message.  I’ve been looking at her paw all day & I can’t see anything that looks different from the other paw.  Did clip her nails though.

Anyway, I happen to have some antifungal ointment so I guess I’ll try putting that between her pads.  Can’t hurt, I suppose.

Yesterday Madeline had a hissy fit because she was unable to expel a long hair (mine I guess) from her butt & it somehow tangled with poop, dirt & grass & created a little tassle on her butthole.  She was running around crying in panic & trying to get it off.

As soon as I came outside, checked her butt, & told her “Ok, just a minute” while I went back into the house for a kleenex she clearly knew all would be well & calmed down.  It’s kind of heartwarming that they know I’m going to help them.

LOL Lennox does the same thing when he ingests hair….Major look of panic on his face.

Try grabbing some Malaseb wipes. Audrey might have some on her. You can use that to wipe between Chie’s toes. I didn’t have them initially; so I used alcohol wipes and they worked too. Smell her toes….You’ll know if it’s the same thing. LOL

Meh, she’s walking normally today.  I just used Tinactin.  I also cleaned out some mud & grass caught between her pads.
